Overview

The Future Technology Research and Innovation (FTRI) Government Authorised Exchange (GAE) scheme is a new visa scheme that enables UK businesses to sponsor international researchers and research interns to carry out short-term work, research, or training placements in the UK.

To be eligible to sponsor researchers through this scheme the business must be undertaking research and/or innovation in one of the critical technologies specified in the UK’s Science & Technology Framework. These critical technologies are:

  • artificial intelligence (AI)
  • engineering biology
  • future telecommunications
  • quantum technologies
  • semiconductors

Register business interest

This form is for UK businesses to register an interest in the Future Technology Research and Innovation Government Authorised Exchange visa scheme. It must be completed if your organisation wishes to obtain a sponsorship licence for the scheme.

You will be asked a series of yes/no questions to determine business eligibility and then asked to provide information on your organisation's plans for sponsorship.

UKRI is able to sponsor eligible organisations. We are not involved with the visa applications of individuals. Individuals interested in being sponsored under this scheme should contact relevant businesses to encourage them to obtain a sponsorship licence for the scheme.

This scheme has no end date. The listed closing date of 20 December 2024 refers to the latest possible date you can register interest in 2024. The form will reopen in 2025.
