Note of Interest for UK Future AI infrastructure investment
Overview
As noted in the Chancellor's 2023 Autumn Statement “the government will be investing a further £500 million in compute for AI over the next two financial years". This builds on the £300m for the first phase of the new AI Research Resource
The exact nature and specification of the government investment is still under development but for the purpose of this document we are seeking to identify organisations with the ability to host and/or operate large-scale compute systems for AI applications, comprising at least 1000 GPUs or equivalent AI-optimised compute architecture, and which can be delivered in the planned timescales.
This form has been designed to help inform UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and the UK Department of Science and Technology (DSIT) of interested parties to ensure we capture the identity of organisations who may wish to host and/or managing future large scale facilities. The data gathered here will help us understand demand, range of potential sites and also provide email contacts to keep you informed on activities around this.
Please note that potential vendors of any system will be engaged through a separate process through standard formal procurement rules.
Please note that these contact details are being provided to UKRI and DSIT on the understanding that you may be further contacted on this matter. Your details maybe share within UKRI and UK government but will not be provided to any third parties.
