MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology Year 12 rotation work experience application form

Closes 9 Mar 2025

Opened 11 Feb 2025

Overview

Thank you for your interest in our work experience opportunities at MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (MRC LMB).

In 2025 we are offering rotation work experience placements to local Year 12 students. During the one-week placement, students will explore the variety of roles that underpin our cutting-edge research by working alongside academic researchers, science facility technicians and support service staff.

Placement dates: Monday 28th July to Friday 1st August, 09:30 – 16:30

Placement location: MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge Biomedical Campus, Francis Crick Ave, Trumpington, Cambridge CB2 0QH

Expenses: Travel expenses will be reimbursed and a lunch voucher will be provided.

Eligibility and selection criteria:

These rotation placements are for local Year 12 students in state (non-fee paying) schools who are currently studying at least one science subject.

The MRC LMB is committed to nurturing diverse talents. We aim to enable students with an interest in pursuing science-related careers to get hands-on experience of working in an academic research institute when they may not ordinarily have the opportunity to do so.

Priority will be given to students who have not previously completed science-linked work experience, and those that belong to a group that is statistically less likely to progress to higher education or science-related careers.

Application and selection dates:

  • Applications close: 23:59 on Sunday 9th March 2025
  • Interviews: After school weeks commencing 24th and 31st March
  • Placement Confirmation: by the end of April

Please note:

Due to limited availability, please be aware that spaces will be competitive and completing an application form does not guarantee placement.
