Community Groups Awarding Criteria

1. The Awarding Criteria
  • The community groups must have the discipline of 'biomedical' within their remit.
  • The community group must be Black-led.
  • Their work must have a positive impact on those from Black heritage backgrounds. This includes Black African, Black Caribbean, Black British and those with Mixed Black heritage.
  • Community groups can apply even if they are not legally registered organisations or have no business bank account.
  • The grant is given to sustain the objectives of the organisation. This includes, but is not limited to, staff payment, training, legal consultation, digital infrastructure, i.e., Zoom subscriptions, and events.
  • Applicants can apply for up to £5,000.
  • This funding cannot be used for personal gain or to create a new group.
  • Those applying must come from an existing research community group.
  • The MRC BBRAG Community sub-group will serve as the panel to review funding applications.
  • Each awarded community group will receive a lump sum payment and will have the opportunity to reapply next year. This funding call will only be available for two years.
  • The awarded community groups are required to attend an evaluation session at the end of the financial year with the MRC BBRAG Community Group sub-group.
