MRC Environmental Sustainability Seminar
Overview
MEDICAL RESEARCH COUNCIL (MRC) ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY SEMINAR SERIES
UK Research & Innovation (UKRI) has set a target to reach a net zero position by 2040 and therefore MRC, as part of UKRI, has embarked on a programme to transform its operations and facilities to become environmentally sustainable and achieve net zero by 2040.
Over the last couple of years, MRC has made initial steps towards this target and has improved the sustainability of its research. In this endeavour it has found good practice in many areas – particularly in higher education, but also in business and government departments. Research operations are complex and subject to significant constraints, but it is clear that the progression of science and environmental sustainability must work in parallel – it should not be a choice between the two.
To engage a wider discussion and to gain commitment in the science sector community to share the ambition, a seminar series has been developed that aims to look at all relevant areas in which environmental sustainability can be tackled. It is an opportunity to learn from others about what is being undertaken elsewhere in the community, share best practice and form support networks.
SEMINAR 3: ACHIEVING ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY IN THE LAB ENVIRONMENT, SUSTAINABLE PROCUREMENT AND SUPPLY CHAIN
The seminar will focus on the specific challenges of achieving environmental sustainability in the context of life science laboratories and further suggests how interventions can be made within supply chains/procurement as a mechanism to ensure greater sustainability.
The seminar will seek to include challenges and views from across the sector and demonstrate areas of best practice in order to accelerate wider adoption as part of a sustainable procurement strategy.
Following the seminar, participants will have an opportunity to network.
We would encourage in person attendance to facilitate richer discussion, followed by a networking session, however appreciate this is not possible for all and will provide a link for virtual attendance.
