Overview

The Data Sandpit for Metascience is a UK Metascience Unit initiative aimed at using UKRI data to address multi-faceted metascience questions related to research and development (R&D) funding and inform R&D decision making.

Sandpit Aims and Objectives

The sandpit objectives are to:

  • Co-develop novel research projects: Provide researcher access to UKRI data to answer metascience questions

  • Build the metascience community: Foster collaboration among researchers, innovators, and stakeholders in the R&D system and metascience.

  • Generate policy impact: Generate insights and evidence to optimize research processes and practices in UKRI and the wider RDI system.

Why your views matter

The sandpit will be an intensive, interactive workshop bringing together a diverse group of participants from a range of disciplines and backgrounds to work together and develop projects to address identified researchable challenges using UKRI data.

Led by the UK Metascience Unit, participants will be supported by a team of mentors. A number of stakeholders also will attend the sandpit to assist participants in defining and exploring challenges in this area. The mentors will act as independent reviewers, making funding recommendations on emergent projects.
