Annual Monitoring Survey for 2023 EPSRC CDTs - 2024/25
SECTION 1: STUDENT RECRUITMENT
SECTION 1: STUDENT RECRUITMENT
Questions 1-24 apply only to EPSRC CDT students who are full members of a CDT cohort, regardless of who now pays the student's studentship costs. Question 25 also applies to aligned students.
This section collects information on:
A) APPLICATIONS TO THE AWARD AND INTERVIEWS
Deals with the student recruitment process for the training grant. We are seeking demographic statistics of applicants and interviewees for studentships for the purpose of equal opportunities monitoring. Please indicate the number of formal applications received for studentships funded through the award, the number invited for interview, the number of appointments made and offers accepted by the candidates. Please provide the diversity statistics.
B) OTHER STUDENTS TRAINED IN YOUR COHORT
The cohort of students undertaking your CDT training programme will comprise students receiving different levels of funding from your award and non-UKRI sources. You may also have aligned studentships that attend events but do not receive any funding from your award. This section seeks to understand more about this body of students.
Please see the following definitions for studentships:
EPSRC CDT students
All students forming part of an EPSRC 2023 CDT cohort, whether their studentship costs (fees, stipend and research training support grant) come fully from EPSRC funding, partly from EPSRC funding, or fully from non-EPSRC leveraged funds of the CDT. All EPSRC 2023 CDT students should be recorded through Je-S Studentship Details (or its successor). The UKRI training grant terms and conditions apply to all these students.
EPSRC CDT students must all receive the same experience and support regardless of their funding. For example, provision for additional support such as Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA), parental leave (in any of its forms), or sickness must be made. These additional costs are the responsibility of the studentship funder, proportionately to their funding of studentship costs for that student. There may be differences in features related to the specific research project, for example, joint supervision and a placement with an industry collaborator.
EPSRC CDT students receiving no UKRI studentship costs
The subset of EPSRC CDT students whose studentship costs (fees, stipend and research training support grant) are funded fully from non-EPSRC leveraged funds. These students are subject to the same terms and conditions and should receive a similar experience, but they are exempted from the standard UKRI cap of 30% international students.
Aligned students
Aligned Students are those with an award that is not reliant on CDT funding (UKRI or the leveraged funds) but who are nonetheless benefitting from CDT activities (an example would be a doctoral training partnership / doctoral landscape award supported student participating in CDT activities/training). Unless they are funded from another UKRI training grant, the UKRI training terms and conditions do not apply. Where they are supported by another UKRI grant any requests for additional costs/support such as parental leave, sickness, or DSA must be linked to that other training grant. No costs associated with Aligned Students may be charged to the CDT grant (though where their participation in a CDT activity does not increase costs, all of the activity’s costs may be charged to the grant). Any additional costs resulting from the inclusion of aligned students should be covered from elsewhere such as the student’s funding source. They must not be recorded through Je-S in association with the CDT grant.
