BBSRC Responsive Mode Thoughts & Opinions
Overview
BBSRC are exploring moving to standing committees and in-person meetings for applicant-led responsive funding.
Standing panels in this context are defined as those with fixed membership, where members are recruited to fulfil fixed term appointments for extended periods (≥1 year). Ad-hoc members can be used sparingly where required for remit coverage, or in the event of increased demand.
The current committee membership model is flexible, where membership is created bespoke for each meeting/assessment period.
A hybrid model is a combination, where a portion of membership follows the fixed model (50-70%) and the remaining (30-50%) are recruited flexibly for each meeting/assessment period.
In-person meetings refers to moving RM panel meetings into a face-to-face setting, rather than virtual discussions over Microsoft Teams to finalise funding reccomendations for Applicant-Led: Responsive Mode.
