International Placement Scheme Interest
Overview
This form is for overseas cultural institutions interested in hosting participants of the International Placement Scheme delivered by the Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC), as part of UKRI.
Since 2005, this scheme empowers UK-based arts and humanities early career researchers and AHRC/ESRC-funded doctoral students to engage in transformative international collaborations by offering dedicated access to world-leading cultural and research institutions abroad.
Through fully funded short placements of 2-6 months, the International Placement Scheme opens doors to unique collections, expert networks, and vibrant research environments that are typically inaccessible in the UK. Currently, the scheme partners with seven host institutions across North America, China, and Japan: The Huntington Library, Harry Ransom Centre, Library of Congress, Smithsonian Institution, Yale Centre for British Art, Shanghai Theatre Academy, and National Institutes for the Humanities.
From 2027, AHRC is inviting overseas cultural and research institutions to join the scheme by hosting a small number of outstanding fully-funded UK-based early career researchers. By becoming internationally connected and visible through this scheme and helping build a global network of early career heritage professionals, cultural institutions will gain access to new talent and expertise, enhance their own practices, attract new research collaborations, and strengthen their position within the global cultural research community.
